Health & Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights

At Community Action for Health and Development (CAHED), we believe that good health and access to sexual and reproductive health rights (SRHR) are the foundation for building stronger and healthier communities. Our programs are designed to empower individuals—especially adolescent girls, young women, and vulnerable populations—to make informed choices about their health and well-being.

Why SRHR Matters

Sexual and reproductive health is more than just medical care—it is about dignity, choice, and equality. Many communities in Kenya and across Africa still face challenges such as limited access to reproductive health services, cultural barriers, and high rates of teenage pregnancies and HIV infections. By addressing these gaps, CAHED contributes to breaking cycles of poverty, improving gender equality, and promoting sustainable development.

Our Interventions in Health and SRHR

CAHED runs targeted, community-based interventions that bring health and SRHR services closer to those who need them most. Our key focus areas include:

  • Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW): We provide tailored education and outreach programs that empower young women with knowledge about reproductive health, menstrual hygiene, and safe practices.

  • HIV Prevention and Care: We raise awareness about HIV prevention methods, support testing and counseling, and ensure that children and teenage mothers living with HIV receive antiretroviral therapy (ART) and ongoing psychosocial support.

  • Menstrual Hygiene Management: Many girls miss school due to lack of menstrual products and stigma. CAHED promotes menstrual hygiene education and distributes sanitary products to help girls manage their periods with dignity.

  • Family Planning Services: We advocate for and facilitate access to family planning options, enabling individuals to plan their futures, reduce maternal deaths, and protect young women from early pregnancies.

  • Support for Teenage Mothers: We provide safe spaces, counseling, and healthcare referrals for teenage mothers, helping them continue their education and raise healthy children.

Impact in the Community

Through our Health and SRHR programs, CAHED has reached thousands of adolescents and families with life-changing services. By bridging the gap between healthcare providers and communities, we ensure that no one is left behind. Our work directly improves school attendance for girls, reduces HIV-related stigma, and promotes healthier, more informed families.

Advocacy and Rights

Beyond service delivery, CAHED is committed to advocating for policy change and raising awareness on sexual and reproductive health rights. We work with community leaders, government stakeholders, and partner organizations to challenge harmful practices and push for inclusive health policies that safeguard the rights of women, youth, and marginalized groups.

Our Vision for the Future

We envision a society where every individual—regardless of gender, age, or background—has access to quality healthcare and full control over their reproductive health choices. By investing in education, awareness, and services, CAHED continues to pave the way for healthier and more empowered communities.
